To experience an extraordinary adventure together: that is what brought Charlotte and Alexandra to this 28th edition of the Rallye Aïcha des Gazelles du Maroc.
A natural choice
Is it really possible for a novice to do this rally? Alexandra pondered this question several times. She made up her mind on a September morning in 2016… A few days later, her sister Charlotte said agreed to share the adventure with her! “Neither of us could imagine doing it with anyone else. We’re good at arguing and making up.” Two months later, their association had been created..
A rallying project
In December 2016, they approached potential sponsors and organized a money pot, a thrift sale, a raffle, two bingos and a zumba party! “We ended up meeting lots of people from the village – it really brought people together. I’ve never met so many people in so little time.”
The two teachers had no experience with project presentations. “We had to insist, follow up. It took a lot of energy, but we realized that we had a network. We completed our budget at the last minute.”
A form of therapy
“We know that we’re extremely lucky. We are two of only 330 women in the world who are doing this rally.” For the sisters, it’s a form of therapy as well: “We came to learn about mechanics, hone our orientation skills. We were really starting from zero. It’s nice to be able to say that we can manage, that we’re going to get our hands dirty. It boosts your self-confidence, and that’s something we needed to work on. And we eat super well here!”
